Victory Over Violence - Fitness Marathon 2009

This year was the 3rd Annual Victory Over Violence Fitness Marathon. Wisconsin locations held VOV on March 7th and Ellipse, Oakville (MO) on March 29th. The fitness marathon included segments of kickboxing, strength training, bootcamp portions, kettlebell exercises, abdominal work, as well as a number of other events, drawings and excitement.  A steady stream of pumped up music kept participants energized, motivated and sweaty.

Ellipse members and VOV participants raise money and items for local domestic abuse shelters.  To participate, members work out for a 4-hour time slot! Ellipse locations donated all proceeds to local domestic abuse shelters!  The total 2009 donations soared above $12,000 with the three year total exceeding $32,000!  Kristin Steede, an Appleton Ellipse member said “Working out never felt so good, not only did we sweat and burn a ton of calories, but we were helping others in need, that’s a great feeling!”

Maria Turner, Development Coordinator for Harbor House, a Wisconsin based domestic abuse shelter and recipient of VOV donations, commented, “The leadership, of Ellipse, on this event is testament to not only appreciating what you have, but reaching out to help others less fortunate in their own circumstances. It’s wonderful to have Ellipse assist us to help them see there will be life without pain.”
